Research to solve the problem of reactivity using waffle pod and screw piles

Wednesday 16 August 2023 from 9:30PM

Description

ACSEV, FFSV and Swinburne University are joining to solve the problem of
footing failures due to reactivity and abnormal moisture conditions. A
research project, focusing on AS 2870, waffle pod, screw piles is underway.
• Whether current AS 2870 is adequate for footing design?
• What is the latest trends and research outcomes on reactivity and
reactive soil?
• Do we need further research to solve the issue of footing failure due
to trees, leaking pipes, and poor drainage?
• Does screw piles have enough capacity to resist heave pressures?
Guest presenters include:
Dr Emad Gad, Dean, School of Engineering– Swinburne University of Technology
Biju Balakrishnan FIEAust CPEng RPEQ– INTRAX/Swinburne University of Technology
